Arsenal 1 Liverpool 1

The Reds were held to a draw at ten man Arsenal after coming from a goal down to equalise. They really should have gone on to win the game after being against ten men for a large chunk of the second half.

The side was changed about a bit with Agger and Insua coming in to the bench alongside Carragher who was playing his 550th appearance. Keane was played up front on his own with Kuyt pushed wider right once again whilst Lucas came in for the unwell Mascherano.

The Reds got the game started sporting their silver away top matched up with home shorts and socks.

The two side cancelled each other out in the early stages. The first real chance for the Reds came on nine minutes when Keane, who seemed to be well offside was allowed to prod the ball back and Gerrard shot straight at Almunia. With that sort of chance you really did expect more from Gerrard in a sense.

Reina had to get down well on fourteen minutes as Arsenal broke really fast but as the cross came in and Adebayor got a header on goal it was easy for Reina to gather the ball.

Robbie Keane got himself a booking on nineteen minutes as he went to close a ball down to stop an Arsenal counter. He was a bit over zealous though and despite his protestations he can't be too unhappy at a yellow.

On twenty four minutes the game was opened up as Arsenal took the lead with a great finish. Robin van Persie nipped in round the back of the defence and with both Carragher and Agger chasing back the Dutch striker took the ball down sold Carragher a dummy before flashing it past Reina and in to the net.

On twenty six minutes Riera tried to get in round the back and after getting to the ball ahead of Sagna his pull back was easily cleared.

On thirty three minutes the Reds had a god free kick opportunity but having beaten the wall with it Gerrard could only watch Almunia gather with ease.

Adebayor got a yellow on thirty seven when he showed his studs at Insua was clearly getting the ball first. Up at the far end Gerrard had a great shot blocked superbly on the edge of the box and his second attempt went well over the bar.

On forty one minutes came the equaliser when Robbie Keane raced through on to a long ball by Agger and as the ball just dropped inside the box he thumped a right footer past Almunia who had absolutely no chance. A great goal for the Reds and just three minutes later it should have been two. Kuyt dispossessed Clichy and put in a great cross which Gerrard stretched his left foot too. It was just too long for Gerrard though and he could only poke the ball over the bar.

In stoppage time Kuyt nearly scored with a shot from outside the box which Almunia tipped for a corner. That brought van Persie falling to the ground like a sack of potatoes with Riera which the ref did well to calm him down from. The corner was cleared and as it went for a throw the half time whistle was blown.

Diaby came on for Fabregas at half time after the midfielder had come out worst from a fair fifty fifty with Alonso as the ball went for the throw that brought half time.

On forty seven minutes the Reds so nearly took the lead as Lucas took down a ball on the edge of the box and shot on goal only for Almunia to push to safety.

The Reds dominated the match now and continued to up the tempo of the game. The only problem for the Reds was that they weren't working Almunia enough.

On sixty one minutes the home side were reduced to ten men as Adebayor was red carded. Adebayor went in with his studs showing to win a mis controlled ball by Arbeloa. With his studs showing and his arm flailing around he caught Arbeloa and he showed a second yellow to the striker and he was off the pitch.

Arsenal really were wound up with the sending off and first van Persie was booked for bringing down Agger from behind and then Riera was hacked down by Sagna to see yellow. It proved Riera's last action as he was replaced by Babel. Shortly after Carragher was booked as he got far too tight to his man who turned him around.

Arsenal were now starting to up their game to compensate for the one player less. It made for a real cat and mouse game.

Lucas was booked on eighty minutes for a poor challenge when he stuck a leg out. A minute later El Zhar was sent on for Keane which saw Kuyt go up top.

On eighty six minutes the Reds nearly scored as Agger strolled forward and shot but his shot went just wide of the target.

David Ngog came on for the final two minutes in place of Lucas as a final throw of the dice. In the final minute Insua put in a good cross which El Zhar headed just wide. He probably should have scored. Three extra minutes were added on at the ninety and inside that Nasri was replaced by Eboue.

At the end of that three minutes the ref blew for time and for me it was certainly a case of if only. f only they had gone for it more then for they could have taken all three points.

MotM : Daniel Agger - came back in to the side and performed really well and was unlucky not to hit the winner late in the half.
